The Science of Vibracoring

The science is quite simple when it comes to Vibracoring. Gravity with our vibratory motor allows a core tube to descend through the bottom substrate by liquefaction of the sediments close to the core tube wall. The result causes a decrease in surface tension (friction) on the coring tube with minimal disturbance to the internal captured sediments. Once full penetration is achieved, the check valve on the top of the core tube creates suction and the core catcher on the bottom crates a physical break in the sample. Together they keep the core sample from washing out as the sample is brought to the surface.
